The material states that the purpose of original OT IV is to proof up a being against any possibility of being re-implanted in the future. If one is properly set up for the level and does it well, the level will most definitely provide that ability for the being. The end product of original OT IV stated in the book Scientology 0-8 is, "Certainty of self as a being."

This level was discontinued by the Church of Scientology in 1985, but never cancelled. it is now being delivered outside the Church of Scientology in the Independent field.

I am still theoretically in the middle of Original OT IV. I've been off on a persistent F/N for around four months. I am probably done, but don't care to attest yet. What a blessing to be able to say that without having some stupid stat-pushing idiot forcing me to attest when I don't feel like it yet.
This is positive gain that is invaluable.
I studied all the material of the clearing course and restudied all of the III and NOTs material before embarking on this journey. I also am a Grad V auditor. I think that the training really helps maximize gains at this level more than any other.

When the NOTs rundowns came out, they were intended to be inserted between OT III and OT IV. At that time they were simply called the NOTs rundowns. One did NOTs, then he went on to the original OT levels. I don't know who altered the bridge to eliminate the original OT levels or why. I do know that it was WRONG.

For me, this level has produced the most cogs and biggest gains in spiritual integrity and strength of anything I've yet done. However, I am positive that had I not done a thorough job of OT I, II, III and NOTs, that I would not be getting these gains.

Pros

I did this Level in 1974. It was not an easy step, took some time to do the drills and get each result. Was it worth it? Well, I consider it the first really positive case-gain OT Level. One needs to make some "negative gain" (pulling ones self up out of the holocaust and negative experiences of the track to be able to confront OT IV first. Lower OT Levels are therefore considered "negative case gain". What wasn't so easy was staying in session and fully experiencing the persistent Floating Needles I had after completing each part of the Level. Most exhilarating was that I became totally certain that I was ME and that I could handle any attempts to invalidate that datum. I knew for certain that I personally have no bank and that I would never get one again. Knowing this gave me the certainty I still carry with me today, almost 40 years later. A huge step in my book. I would advise that a person be completely ready for this level, having done all the lower steps first. That's the way to get the best results.

Cons

None, really. Like I said, keeping myself in session was the only barrier, if one wants to call it that. LOL.
